I would suggest The Lost Dutchman Marathon at Apache Junction, Arizona held February 14, 2010 as a must do for your marathon list for 2010.

Hi William, About my taper plans. I am going to start tapering three weeks before the event. Basically I will decrease my long workouts by 10% the first week, another 10% (total 20%) the second week and another 5% (total 25%) the week prior to the event. I'll also shorten my other workouts the final week to around 30 minutes swimming, an hour biking and 20 to 30 minutes running depending on how much nervous energy I have. I've found it's best just to kick back, relax and enjoy the moment the week of the race.

I didn't last week, I'm babying my achilles and we went camping, but I have been prior to that. I conned a friend into riding with me to the store to get a birthday present for my son! It was only about 8 miles round trip and a pretty easy ride. There is a group of people that met last week to start training for this triathlon and offer some encouragement; it looks pretty promising! I'm not too worried, I've always been athletic and it's not a hard core race. It really is for beginners and those who just want to get fit. I think I'm getting hooked though!!! I'm kinda thinking I might try a true sprint next year! We'll have to see.

Tell me, William, what is your background. Do you have a favorite sport? If I remember correctly you're from AZ? What part? Are you able to get out and train? We moved form the Mesa area because we didn't like the heat. There is no way I could run or bike there! I sweat like a pig here in the morning when its only 60-65 degrees!

Thanks for the frequent encouragement.

Sorry I didn't fill you in! Heck ya I did it! I shaved 3.5 minutes off my time, too! I finished in 32:39. Now I'm working on the training for the mini tri. I'm still trying to figure out how to do all three events without totally exhausting myself. Any pointers? This week I've been biking the six and running two but haven't added the swimming. Hopefully next week. Thanks for thinking of me.

Yes, I'm planning on a 5K in about 2 weeks and more over the next couple of months. Also, I'm training for a mini triathlon. 1/4 swim, 6 bike, 2 run. That's why I'm here. I'm looking for training ideas.
